New figures published in the Skillnet Ireland Annual Report show more than 13,300 training days were delivered

More than 570 businesses across Cavan and Monaghan invested in employee training and upskilling through Skillnet Ireland in 2025, with over 2,100 workers taking part in programmes designed to boost skills, productivity and competitiveness.

New figures published in the Skillnet Ireland Annual Report show more than 13,300 training days were delivered across the two counties during the year. Small and medium-sized enterprises accounted for 94% of participating businesses, highlighting the strong demand for workforce development among local employers.

Agriculture recorded the highest uptake of training, followed by the services, food and drink, construction, retail, manufacturing and legal sectors. Businesses accessed programmes through more than 50 of Skillnet Ireland's 70 Business Networks, including Midlands Border East Skillnet, Taste 4 Success Skillnet and Farm Business Skillnet.

The report also found that people aged between 30 and 39 were the largest group to avail of training opportunities, while participation was almost evenly split between men (52%) and women (48%).

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless said the figures demonstrate the importance businesses place on developing their workforce.

He said more than 23,000 businesses nationwide participated in Skillnet Ireland programmes during 2025, recognising that investing in skills is essential for improving productivity, embracing new technologies and remaining competitive.

Skillnet Ireland Chief Executive Mark Jordan said the organisation would continue working with businesses and industry partners to deliver training that responds to the changing needs of employers and helps strengthen the resilience of the Irish economy.

Nationally, more than 84,500 workers received training through Skillnet Ireland in 2025, supported by a combined investment of €74 million, with businesses contributing €26.5 million towards the cost of upskilling their employees.
