Reserve titles up for grabs in Monaghan

The first of this year’s Platinum Tanks Monaghan GAA Reserve Football Championship finals took place in Drumhowan last Friday night, with Killanny lifting the Crawley Cup after a narrow win over Aghabog.

Killanny never trailed during a low-scoring encounter, which the Division 2A table-toppers won by 0-11 to 0-9.

A two-point free by John Gartlan and scores by Killian Collins and Daryl Traynor had Killanny 0-5 to 0-2 up at half-time, with Paudi Gleeson accounting for both of Aghabog’s points.

Ewan Humphreys converted a two-point free to bring Aghabog within the minimum after the restart, but Killanny moved clear with three white flags from Darren Leegan and one by Aodhán McConnon.

Gleeson, Dáire O’Brien and Shane Kierans were on target as Aghabog brought it down to the wire, but Collins and Cillian McConnon kept Killanny just out of reach.

Reserve Finals

There are two more Platinum Tanks Monaghan GAA Reserve Football Championship finals down for decision tonight (Wednesday).

Carrickmacross and Truagh are set to contest the O’Duffy Cup Final in Drumhowan, while Oram is the venue for the McKeown Cup decider between Castleblayney and Clontibret.

Donaghmoyne will face Scotstown next Wednesday (July 29) in the Reserve Football League Division 1A Final after they saw off Carrickmacross last Friday.

An early goal by David Kerley helped Donaghmoyne on their way to a 2-7 to 0-8 interval lead and despite Carrick drawing level midway through the second half, Josh Wilson hit the net late on to seal it for the Fontenoys.

Clontibret booked their place in the Division 1B decider against Castleblayney with a 1-17 to 1-8 win away to Emyvale. Shane Byrne, MP O’Dowd and keeper Christopher McDermott were among Clontibret’s scorers as they built up a 0-8 to 0-4 lead at the break and they all but sealed their victory when Luke Brennan netted towards the end of the third quarter.

Clones qualified for a Division 2A Final meeting with Crawley Cup winners Killanny, courtesy of a 3-13 to 1-12 defeat of Cremartin.

A Cillian Gibbons goal helped Cremartin lead by five points on the 20-minute mark, but Thomas Mulhall, Marc Maguire and Daragh McElvaney raised a green flag each as Clones gained a grip on the game.

Éire Óg cruised past Ballybay in the Division 2B semi, powered by goals from Dermot Gleeson, Paddy Croarkin and Brendan Reilly.

The Smithborough side will take on table-toppers Truagh next Wednesday.

Oram and Toome will contest the Division 3A Final. Callum O’Reilly, Lee Cunningham and Stephen Kelly got the all-important goals as Toome held off Currin’s challenge on Tuesday, while Oram rattled in six majors – two each by Patrick Laverty and Rory Murphy, plus one apiece from Ben Mone and Glen Forde – to dismiss Latton on Wednesday.

Tyholland and Rockcorry are through to the Division 3A Shield Final after wins over Killeevan and Blackhill.
