Additional Gardaí for Cavan and Monaghan

Garda stations in Cavan and Monaghan are set to receive eleven new probationary Gardaí.

One Garda has been allocated to Carrickmacross station, seven to Cavan and three to Monaghan. The allocation follows today’s attestation of 206 probationer Gardaí at the Garda College in Templemore.

Deputy Brendan Smith (FF) welcomed the allocation, describing how communities "value greatly" the presence of Members of An Garda Síochána.

"With a growing population we need more Gardaí throughout both counties," he said.

"On a daily basis Gardaí deal with complex issues and face difficult situations and they work extremely hard in the best interests of the public."

"I congratulate the new Gardaí who have recently graduated and I wish them good health and safety in their work," he said.

Fine Gael Senator Joe O'Reilly said: “We are all immensely grateful to our Gardaí for their outstanding dedication and commitment to serving the public and for the important role that they play in our communities."

Senator Robbie Gallagher (FF) also welcomed the allocations, outlining: "Visible policing plays a vital role in preventing crime, supporting victims and providing reassurance to local communities.

"Continued investment in Garda recruitment and resources is essential to ensure An Garda Síochána can meet the demands placed upon it."
