Fundraiser for family of mother and child killed in collision
FRIENDS of Nell Raven and Irena Mereacre's family have set up a GoFundMe Page to support them, while mother and daughter will be laid to rest on Saturday
NEIGHBOURS and friends of the family in Milltown who are coming to terms with the loss of Nell Raven and her daughter Irena (Ira) Mereacre in a road traffc collision this week, have set up a GoFundMe page in their honour.
Nell Raven died at the scene of the incident near Shercock last Friday and her 10-year-old daughter, Ira Mereacre, passed away at Temple Street Children’s Hospital on Tuesday.
They are survived by their husband and father, Alex Mereacre, and his stepdaughter, Evey Kemp, who live in Gortnacleigh, Milltown.
There has been an outpouring of sympathy online from the parishes of Milltown, Drumlane, and the wider county following the passing of Nell and then her young daughter days later.
“The community are shocked and devastated by their loss, but we cannot begin to understand how Alex must feel,” a post on the GoFundMe set up to raise money to help Alex and Evey during this difficult time says.
“We hope the donations received on this page will at the very least relieve some financial pressures on the family while they try to cope with this devastating loss,” the post continues.
Meanwhile, the funeral for the mother and daughter is arranged for this Saturday, August 1, at St Patrick’s Church.
Nell and Irena will repose at Lawlor’s Funeral Home, Ernehill, Belturbet, on Friday evening from 5pm until 7pm.
Remains will leave the family home in Gortnacleigh at 10.30am on Saturday morning to arrive for funeral service at St Patrick’s Church with burial afterwards in Drumlane cemetery.
House strictly private in Saturday morning.
