Sunny spells before weekend weather turns

A largely dry start to the Bank Holiday weekend will give way to cloud, rain and more humid conditions from Sunday onwards.

There will be a mix of sunshine and showers across Cavan today before conditions turn more unsettled over the Bank Holiday weekend, according to the latest forecast.

Friday will begin bright with plenty of sunny spells, although scattered showers affecting the west and north this morning will spread across the country as the day progresses. Some of the showers could turn sharp in Ulster during the afternoon, but they are expected to ease by evening.

Temperatures will reach between 15°C and 21°C, with Cavan expected to see highs in the mid to high teens. Light southwesterly winds will become light to moderate westerly through the day.

Tonight will be mostly dry with clear spells and just a few isolated showers. Cloud will gradually increase across the west, north and midlands later, with overnight lows of between 7°C and 11°C in a light southwesterly breeze.

Saturday is set to be another largely dry day, with sunny spells and only isolated light showers. Skies will become hazier during the afternoon and evening, while temperatures will climb to between 16°C and 22°C in a light to moderate westerly breeze.

However, conditions are expected to deteriorate as the Bank Holiday weekend continues.

Saturday night will remain mostly dry, although cloud will increase from the south overnight. There is a chance of light rain or drizzle developing in the southwest later, with mist and fog patches also possible. Overnight temperatures will range from 8°C to 12°C.

Sunday is forecast to be largely cloudy, with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle developing, particularly across southern and western parts of the country. Northern and eastern areas, including parts of Ulster, may stay drier for much of the day. Highest temperatures will range from 17°C to 21°C in light to moderate east to southeast winds.

Cloud and patchy rain will continue into Sunday night, with temperatures remaining mild at between 12°C and 16°C.

There is still some uncertainty surrounding Monday's forecast, but current indications suggest a cloudy and increasingly humid day with scattered outbreaks of rain and the possibility of a few heavier downpours. Temperatures are expected to reach between 17°C and 23°C, with the coolest conditions in Ulster.

Tuesday currently looks set to be warm, humid and cloudy, with widespread showers developing. Highest temperatures of 19°C to 24°C are expected.

Looking further ahead, forecast confidence decreases, but the weather is expected to remain changeable through the remainder of next week, with spells of rain interspersed with drier periods. Temperatures are likely to stay in the high teens and low twenties.
