Dry start before cloud increases ahead of unsettled Bank Holiday

Today (Saturday) will be dry for most areas, with just the chance of a few isolated light showers. There will be sunny spells through the morning, although skies will become increasingly hazy during the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures will range from 16C to 22C, coolest in the northwest, with light to moderate westerly breezes.

Tonight will stay largely dry, but cloud will gradually build from the south. There is a chance of light rain or drizzle reaching the southwest later, while mist and fog patches may develop in light variable winds. Overnight lows will fall to between 8C and 12C.

Looking ahead, conditions will become more unsettled through the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend. Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle developing, particularly across southern and western counties. Northern and eastern areas are likely to remain drier. Temperatures will reach 17C to 21C in light to moderate east to southeast winds.

Cloud and patchy rain will spread northwards on Sunday night, making for a milder night with temperatures holding between 12C and 16C.

There remains some uncertainty for Monday, but current indications suggest another cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of rain and the possibility of a few heavier downpours. It will also turn more humid, with highs of 17C to 23C.

Tuesday is expected to stay warm and humid, with widespread showers and temperatures climbing to between 19C and 24C.

Looking further ahead, confidence in the forecast decreases, but changeable conditions are likely to continue through next week, with spells of rain interspersed with drier periods and temperatures generally remaining in the high teens to low twenties.
