Over 8,000 passports issued in Cavan-Monaghan this year

There have been 8,294 passports issued in Cavan and Monaghan in the first six months of this year, new figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs show.

The number of passports issued in Cavan is 4,697 and, in Monaghan, the number is 3,597. Nationally, over half a million passports were issued in the first half of the year with counties Dublin, Cork, and Antrim recording the highest numbers. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Helen McEntee, provided the update on Monday praising the staff at the Passport Service saying the service as “world class”.

Passport reminder service

At the same time, the minister announced a new passport reminder service set to roll out from next year.

However, due to data protection rules, the change will only apply to passports issued from 2027 and not passports due to expire in the coming years.

In June, Minister McEntee launched the newly designed Irish passport and citizens who have applied for a new passport or card since then will receive a newly designed version. “I am delighted with the reception that the next generation passport has received," said the Minister.

“Extensive public consultation influenced the new design and in addition to the new visuals, there are world-leading security features incorporated throughout the book, ensuring the Irish passport is one of the most advanced in the world,” added Helen McEntee.
