MCC to host civic reception for McKenna brothers

Monaghan County Council is hosting a civic reception and homecoming for the McKenna brothers in Church Square, Monaghan Town, tomorrow evening (Thursday, August 13).
The public event will honour the remarkable achievements of the two Monaghan brothers following a historic weekend for Irish boxing.
The civic reception will commence at the updated time of 7pm and will provide the people of Monaghan and supporters from across the region with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the brothers’ outstanding success and contribution to Irish boxing.
Monaghan native sports and entertainment presenter, Gráinne McElwain, is the MC for the event.
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Aidan Campbell said: “Aaron and Stevie have brought immense pride to County Monaghan.
“Their dedication, determination and achievements on the international stage have inspired people throughout our county and beyond.”
Chief Executive Robert Burns reflects that McKennas’ success is a proud moment for the county.
“Aaron’s achievement in becoming IBF World Middleweight Champion and Stevie’s continued success in professional boxing are testament to years of commitment and hard work,” Mr. Burns remarked.
“Monaghan County Council is honoured to host this homecoming celebration and to acknowledge what the McKenna family has achieved.”
Members of the public are invited to attend the event and join in celebrating two of Monaghan’s most accomplished sporting figures.
