Ohk Energy invests in Green Energy Talent

As Ireland accelerates towards a cleaner, more electrified future, one challenge stands out: the country needs skilled people to build it. Demand for solar PV, battery storage and heat pumps is surging nationwide, driven by rising electricity costs, energy security concerns and ambitious climate targets - and competition for skilled tradespeople has never been more intense.

That's why Ohk Energy, Ireland's leading renewable energy installer, is opening its doors on Thursday August 27 at 7pm for a Careers Open Night in their head office in Castleblayney - a chance for trainees, undergraduates and apprentices to meet the team, see what a career in renewable energy actually looks like, and find out how to get involved.

For Ohk Energy, the answer to the industry's skills challenge is simple: invest in people for the long term. The company recently announced 60 new nationwide roles across electricians, roofers and Registered Gas Installers, as part of its continued expansion across residential, commercial and community energy projects.

"What matters now is building sustainable careers, not just filling positions," says Ciara King, Ohk Energy's Director of HR, Recruitment & Training. "We genuinely believe renewable energy represents one of the biggest long-term career opportunities in Ireland right now."

That philosophy runs through the Ohk Energy Training Academy, where 50 young adults are currently training, 35 of them on the company's apprenticeship scheme - combining real-world, on-the-job experience with structured classroom learning. Ohk Energy also runs Ireland's first-ever Renewable Energy Traineeship and an Undergraduate Programme that fully funds students' university fees while they work, letting them earn as they learn without the burden of student debt.

Managing Director Conal O'Reilly puts it plainly: "Our young people are the future of the industry. If we train them well and give them the right support, they'll go on to do great things."
