Production in building and construction sector up by 0.4%, figures show

The volume of production in the building and construction sector rose by 0.4% in Q2 2026, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

On an annual basis, the CSO say that a decrease of 3.4% was recorded in the volume of production in the building and constructions in Q2 2026.

When it came to the residential building sector, this rose by 5.5% in Q2 2026, compared with the first three months of the year.

In the civil engineering sector, an increase of 3.1% was recorded between Q1 2026 and Q2 2026. The CSO say that the volume index in the non-residential building secret fell by 9.7% during the same period.

The value of production index for all building and construction in Q2 2026 rose by 1.1%, but was down on an annual basis from Q2 2025.

Shane O’Sullivan, Statistician in the Housing Division, said: “On a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of production in Building and Construction rose by 0.4% between Q1 2026 and Q2 2026. On an annual basis, production volume decreased by 3.4%.

“On a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of production in construction was up by 0.4% between Q1 2026 and Q2 2026. During the same period, volume of production in Residential Building increased by 5.5% and by 3.1% in Civil Engineering, while in contrast Non-Residential Building fell by 9.7%.

“On an annual basis, between Q2 2025 and Q2 2026, production volume in All Building and Construction was down by 3.4%. During the same period, annual production volume fell by 4.4% in the Civil Engineering sector and by 18.0% in Non-Residential Building, while production volume in Residential Building showed an annual increase of 12.6%.

“The seasonally adjusted value index for Building and Construction rose by 1.1% between Q1 2026 and Q2 2026 and fell by 0.6% on an annual basis from Q2 2025. Excluding Civil Engineering, the seasonally adjusted value index fell by 0.2% on a quarterly basis and by 1.1% on an annual basis."
