Cavan star set for final day after tying course record

Leader Casandra Alexander remains seven shots clear

Leona Maguire gave herself a genuine shot at Irish Open glory after a sensational Saturday at the K Club.

The Ballyconnell native fired a flawless nine-under-par 63 in the rain-soaked conditions, matching the course record with nine birdies and not a single dropped shot.

She had been left ruing missed opportunities on Friday, saying afterwards that she felt capable of shooting 10-under. This time, she finally got the reward.

The performance carries added significance on home soil, with Maguire now sitting fourth heading into Sunday's final round.

Yet there is still a sizeable mountain to climb.

Leader Casandra Alexander remains seven shots clear, sitting at three-under for her third round with 12 holes completed.
