Tánaiste to represent EU at G20 finance ministers meeting in US

Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris is attending a two-day meeting of G20 finance ministers in the United States.

The two-day meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors is hosted by the US G20 Presidency in North Carolina, beginning on Monday.

The G20 meetings will focus on the outlook for the global economy with key issues such as energy security, financial and economic stability set to be discussed.

As part of Ireland’s EU Presidency role, the Tánaiste will represent the EU alongside president of the European Central Bank (ECB) Christine Lagarde and EU commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.

The meetings will also include discussions on the global economy, global imbalances, financial sector issues and sovereign debt infrastructure.

During the two-day trip to Asheville, the Tánaiste will also hold bilateral meetings with ministers from G20 member states.

In an EU Presidency event, an informal summit of EU defence ministers will take place in Co Wicklow on Monday and Tuesday, chaired by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Helen McEntee.
