Just days after appealing for the return of his missing keyboard, Cavan performer Cormac McCann is set to return to the stage after being gifted a replacement musical instrument by a friend and neighbour.

The Belturbet native, better known to audiences as Keyboard Cormac, will perform as part of Culture Night celebrations in Cavan Town on Friday. From around 2pm, he will entertain passers-by outside the Post Office beneath the watchful gaze of the Gallant John Joe O'Reilly statue.

The welcome boost comes after McCann's Casio CA110 keyboard was lost, and presumed stolen, at Electric Picnic.

Fortunately, a friend managed to source a replacement and surprised the popular entertainer: "A wonderful thing happened one day when a friend sourced the same model of keyboard in the Netherlands," said McCann. "I gratefully accepted the gift."

Speaking to The Anglo-Celt, McCann said he was eager to get back performing despite the recent setback on the festival circuit: "I will return to live performance this Friday as part of the street entertainment organised for Culture Night in Cavan Town," he said.

While he remains hopeful of recovering his original keyboard, McCann insists the show must go on: "Even though I haven't got my EP keyboard back, the show must go on. I have to return to entertaining people. I remain hopeful that my missing keyboard may be returned."

Later on Friday evening, September 18, the classically trained pianist will swap into his popular Piano Man persona to headline the Cormac McCann and Friends variety show at Bailieborough Courthouse. The free concert begins at 8pm as part of the town's Culture Night programme.
