Pedal power for a purpose!
DB Cycling Club and Lakeland Dairies Raise Vital Funds
The roads around Drung came alive on July 18, 2026, as 205 cyclists gathered for the DB Cycling Club and Lakeland Dairies Charity Annual Sportive. The event was aimed at raising important funds for these great causes: Irish Cancer Society, Cootehill Cancer Care, Clones Dementia Group, and Cavan Alzheimer’s Society.
A total of €6,562 was raised which was shared between the charities, along with other local non-profit organisations like the Cavan Civil Defence and Cootehill First Responders who volunteered their time during the Sportive.

Participants chose between two routes - 50km and 100km - both departing from The Stray Sod in Drung.
Cyclists enjoyed the rolling countryside and warm support from local residents along the way.
Commenting on the event, Lakeland Dairies Chief People Officer, Liz Shouldice sald: “Events like this speak volumes about what can be achieved when communities, clubs and companies come together. We’re grateful to DB Cycling Club for their tireless organisation. This sportive is more than just a cycle - it’s a show of solidarity, remembrance, and generosity.”
Chairperson of DB Cycling Club, Tracy McConkey, said: “We were thrilled with the second success of the DB Lakeland Dairies Charity Cycle event. Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day. Well done to all the cyclists and to everyone who helped behind the scenes. It is much appreciated. The funds raised are going to very deserving causes close to our own hearts.”
