Gowna woman takes on Dublin marathon for wheelchair association
Gowna woman Jasmin Hartin will run the Dublin Marathon (October 25) to raise vital funds for the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA), with sister Yanna her biggest motivation.
Yanna, who alongside her sister Jasmin is one of four quadruplets, has been a wheelchair user since a car accident left her paralysed from the waist down.
The accident was devastating for the entire family, but today, Yanna is thriving.
“It was initially like - what does this mean and where do we go from here?” says Jasmin. “Yanna is so positive, she kind of paved the way for us. Her approach was very much ‘there’s nothing I can’t do, some things may just look a little different’.”
Yanna lives her life to the full, bolstered by the incredible support from her family and her local community.
“The support is amazing,” says Jasmin. “There was a fundraiser done called Yanna’s Four Leaf Clover and none of us could believe the support from the community. Whatever we thought it would be, it was doubled and tripled, it was amazing. People couldn’t have done more.”
It was Yanna’s experience that inspired Jasmin to take on the whopping 42.2km in aid of IWA, an organisation that works with and on behalf of people with physical disabilities. Jasmin has herself raised over €6,700 thanks to support from her community.
“We would like to say a huge thanks to Jasmin for taking on this incredible challenge in aid of Irish Wheelchair Association, and we would also like to thank her family and her local community for the huge show of support,” said Ferelith Kingston, Community Fundraising & Events Coordinator at IWA.
“We wouldn’t be able to do this work without incredible supporters like Jasmin, who help raise the vital funds that enable us to support people with disabilities in communities across Ireland.”
