Celebrating 60 years of St Aidan’s Comp in Cootehill
St Aidan’s Comprehensive were “absolutely delighted” to mark their 60th anniversary alongside invited guests from past and present, including members of their very first class of 1966.
“It was especially wonderful to welcome back so many of our retired staff members. Thank you for joining us and making the day so special,” principal Angela Flanagan said.
She thanked all those who worked behind the scenes to make the celebration such a success.
“We were treated to some truly lovely music from our school choir, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful photo display capturing 60 years of memories at St Aidan’s. We had a beautiful ecumenical ceremony in the hall and reminisced, recalling old memories of St Aidan’s. After the service we planted a tree in our sensory garden to mark this milestone,” she described.
Afterwards, those gathered congregated for a cup of tea, a ceremonial cake cutting display and a catchup with old friends.
The St Aidan’s Colour Fun Run was “another great success” with amazing weather, meanwhile the mood was “high”.
“The Transition Years once again played a blinder organising and managing our annual Colour Run,” Ms Flanagan said. “We had some fabulous new additions this year with giant inflatable games and a very cold-water dunk tank that proved very popular as students got their own back on staff. Fancy dress was also part of the day and some staff and students were very inventive. Thanks to all staff and students for making this such an enjoyable event.”
Coco’s law talk
The students heard a talk on Coco’s law from Jackie Fox who shared her daughter Nicole’s (Coco’s) story and her powerful message with TY students.
“Through Jackie’s determination and campaigning, Nicole’s legacy lives on through Coco’s Law. It was a moving reminder to us all of the importance of kindness, respect and responsibility, both online and offline.”
