Cooking up a storm for frontline workers
Some of Ireland's leading chefs and influencers have teamed up with Shercock company Manor Farm to produce a charity cookbook.
The digital chicken recipe book 'Feed the Heroes' is seeking to raise €20,000 for the charity organisation of the same name by May 20.
The recipe book is available as an e-book for a donation on the dedicated Feed the Heroes Cookbook fundraising page.
Feed the Heroes is an initiative, which aims to provide food for those working on the frontline during the current Coronavirus pandemic.
Bawnboy chef Adrian Martin is the brand ambassador for Manor Farm and the lead chef on this initiative. The recipe book has 22 chicken recipes, which can be easily made at home during the quarantine period. Other chefs featured include Darina Allen, Rachel Allen, Simon Delaney and Joe Shannon, among others.
Chefs and food influencers provided Manor Farm with their go-to chicken recipes that they enjoy making at home.
Contributors include a range of chefs, influencers and foodies, and restaurateur Adrian Martin has also included his favourite chicken recipe.
Adrian is an enthusiastic Irish chef who has worked with Manor Farm to expand consumer horizons on the versatility of chicken. Earlier this year, he opened his first restaurant, Wildflower, in London, which is temporarily closed as a result of the pandemic.
He told the Celt: "I am privileged to have this opportunity to collaborate with my chef friends and food contemporaries to develop this online recipe book. We know more people are cooking at home in this current crisis and we hope we can add some variety to their repertoire with many accessible chicken recipes, while also supporting the invaluable work of Feed the Heroes."
Brendan Nolan, marketing manager for Manor Farm said: “Following HSE and HSPC guidelines, our staff and colleagues have continued to go to work every day in difficult circumstances and can therefore recognise the sacrifices that frontline workers are making on all our behalf. This book is a thank you to them from Manor Farm.”
The Feed the Heroes Cookbook is available online on the Manor Farm website, where you will be directed to a dedicated donation page or you can log on to https://chicken.ie/feedtheheroes/
Manor Farm sources and processes approximately half of all fresh chicken sold in the Irish retail market. The company, which operates its own feed mill close to its processing plant in Shercock, employs over 900 staff and works with over 180 local farmers.
Feed the Heroes ensures that frontline medical workers receive nutritious meals as they continue to work longer shifts. To date, the organisation has raised over €750,000 and served over 36,000 meals.
