Celt photographer Lorraine takes award for 'Beat at Bealtaine'

A Cavan based photographer is among the winners at this year's Press Photographers Association of Ireland (PPAI) awards, which were conferred at an award ceremony in Dublin at the weekend.
Lorraine Teevan, who is also one of The Anglo-Celt's premier photographers, was nominated in a number of categories and took third place in the Arts & Ents section.
Her entry 'Beat at Bealtaine' depicted Ailbhe Ni Rian taking park in the Uisneach Bealtaine fire celebration.
The judges described the shote as: 'A dynamic and magical image enhanced by wonderfully translucent lighting quality.'

Multi-award winning photographer Lorraine is no stranger to the PPAI awards, having been shortlisted twice previously.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was in attendance to present the overall award of the ‘Press Photographer of the Year’ 2020 award, which was won by Independent News & Media photographer, Mark Condren.
In a night dominated by male winners, Mark took first prize both the Political and Multi-media categories and this is his fifth time to win the overall award.
Awards were presented across nine categories; news, daily life & people, nature & the environment, politics, sports action, sports feature, portrait, art & entertainment and reportage, alongside a dedicated award for multimedia. The collection of images provides a snapshot of the year 2019 in Ireland covering the many highs and the lows including sporting events both at home and abroad, from the outstanding moment Shane Lowry won at ‘The Open’ as well as historic events, such as 100 years of the Liffey Swim.
The judging panel was chaired by photographer Frank Miller and former picture editor, The Herald, Glasgow, Jim Connor and internationally acclaimed photographer Edmond Terakopian.
