Thirty-three golds for Cavan at Ulster Fleadh!

Cavan featured strongly in the medals at the Ulster Fleadh in Castlewellan, Co Down, last weekend - taking home a total of 33 gold medals - while scores of competitors qualified for the All-Ireland Fleadh in Drogheda later this month - August 15-17.

Those placing first or second in their respective categories and competitions go through to the national finals. From singing and dancing, to music and storytelling, the Breffni county was well represented with numerous judges commenting on the excellent standard in a variety of competitions, particularly among the younger competitors.

And it wasn’t just medals that Cavan was winning but hearts too as the county took a step closer to securing the Ulster Fleadh for 2020 and 2021. Representatives of the Ulster Council will come to Cavan on August 7 to perform a series of checks ahead of the announcement. However, commentators say the Cavan Town is the front runner to host the event for the next two years - having hosted three successful All-Ireland fleadhanna from 2010-2012.
