Counselling grants A grant package totalling €45,000 for four groups in Cavan town offering marriage, child and bereavement counselling services and supports has been approved by the government. Cavan Family Resource Centre, Rainbows Cavan (St. Patrick's College), Rainbows St. Felim's Cavan and Tullacmongan Resource Centre will benefit from the grants. The Minister for Agriculture and Cavan/Monaghan TD, Brendan Smith, said that all of the groups involved were doing excellent work in supporting vulnerable groups and individuals in their local communities and that the funding would allow them to carry on and further develop this work. Historical society Cumann Seanchais Bhreife (Breifne Historical Society) will host its annual general meeting in The Pastoral Centre St. Patrick's College, Cavan on Friday, May 21, at 8pm. It will be followed by a lecture at 9.15pm on "Jezabel, Anne Boleyn and Eoghan O Dubhthaigh, the Observantine Franciscans and the Reformation" by Professor Michael MacCraith, Irish Department, NUI Galway. Everyone welcome. Cavan Beekeepers Cavan Beekeepers meeting Wednesday, May 12 at 8pm in Ballyhaise Agricultural College. Bookings for bees will be taken on the night. After the business meeting, the group will split with the more experienced beekeepers engaged in forward planning; ie, bus trip to Bawnboy, and the beginners starting their course. Cavan orphanage Friends of the Cavan Orphanage are holding a public meeting on Thursday, May 13, at 8pm in the Farnham Arms Hotel, Main Street, Cavan town, to make plans for a special ecumenical prayer service at the convent courtyard, which is provisionally fixed for Tuesday evening, June 15. All people from all faiths and none who are interested in helping out at this event in any way are invited to come along where you will be made most welcome. Cavan Access Association County Cavan Access Association will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 13, at 8.30pm in the Irish Wheelchair Association resource centre, Unit 1. Block D. at Corlurgan Business Park, Ballinagh Road, Cavan. All committee members are requested to attend. BirdWatch Ireland Sunday, May 16, is National Dawn Chorus Day, and anyone interested should meet at Dernaferst Bridge which is 2km approx south west of Gowna village on the Aughnacliffe Road at 4.30am. Cavan Youth Drama Cavan Youth Drama will perform 'A Celebration of Youth' this Saturday, May 15, at 8pm and Sunday, May 16, at 3pm in Townhall, Cavan, which will also feature the creative works of Castletara Foróige Group. This is part of a fundraising drive to provide the youth of Cavan with a summer street theatre project that will be launched at Cavan Summer Festival in June and County Fleadh. We hope the community will come and support this very worthy cause.
