County Cavan Annual Ploughing Championships
Loch Gowna, May 4, 2009 This year the 28th Annual Co. Cavan Ploughing Championship was held in Loch Gowna, Co. Cavan. The event was held on the parochial land by kind permission of Fr. FJ Fitzpatrick, and the adjoining land of Kevin Madden. The ploughing was last held in the area 50 years ago. Gate proceeds are being donated to the Church Of Ireland and the Church of the Holy Family, Loch Gowna. The ploughing competition started at noon and 74 tractors and ploughs, ten teams of horses and twelve loy diggers competed in 18 different classes. Competitors travelled from all over Ireland to take part. Ploughing conditions were good considering the inclement weather on the day.
