Mountnugent firm scoops enterprise award

A Mountnugent company has scooped the overall prize at the Cavan County Enterprise Awards, which were presented in the Cavan Crystal Hotel last Thursday night. Surplus Stock Worldwide will now represent Cavan in the regional section of the National Enterprise Awards. Speaking to The Anglo-Celt the owner of Surplus Stock Worldwide, Terry Rehill, said he was delighted and thrilled to win the award. "It is some reward for all the hard work." He and his wife Bridget established the company in 2010 and the website went live in late October of that year. "Basically what we are is an e-commerce website for industrial spare parts and surplus stock." They are successfully helping companies sell their stock to a worldwide market by uploading it to their website and offering it for sale to a global market. "Our customers are selling their parts right across the globe from Europe to North America, Middle East, China, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand." According to Terry they have customers in 15 countries right across the globe as well as here in Ireland. It is a family-run business with Terry and Bridget as directors and they employ two full-time staff and two part-time employees. Terry and Bridget are the driving force behind the company. Since they founded the business it has been going well for them. "We are actively engaged with investors and potential strategic partners to help us develop the business and to reach its full potential in the next two or three years," Terry explains. Their plan is that they will be a local company with a global vision. "As we grow we hope to become a major employer in the Cavan area." The reason behind the establishment of the company is simple, The way people do business now has changed forever, states Terry. "It is a proven fact that 80 per cent of buyers search on line for parts and equipment so basically if your goods cannot be found on line you are losing out on many potential customers." Where Surplus Stock Worldwide is offering the advantage is that the unique structure of the website. This means that 90 per cent of their products are up there and people are coming across the company on the first page of Google searches. "That is driving the traffic through the website and to our customers." As far as Terry is concerned they are the only company in the world offering such a service. On the night of the awards Terry admits they were up against some excellent businesses. "There is always competition out there." He could not give enough praise to the County Cavan Enterprise Board for its support and advice. He paid tribute to the CEO Vincent Reynolds, Jim Fox and Marcella Rudden. "At a time when the public service is getting bad press, coming in for criticism regarding efficiency, we are lucky in Cavan to have an enterprise board that works hard for and with you from a seed stage to a viable business." Terry admits he would not be here without them.
