Judges go gaga for Aidan's TY Radio

The corridors of St. Aidan's school in Cootehill are alive with the sound of music, a huge hit with staff and students! The buzz is thanks to the efforts of the team behind TY Radio. It is a first for St. Aidan's to have its own live radio station for students, who broadcast over the school PA system at lunch breaks and stream their programmes live to the internet - see staidans.ie for a link. The judges of the Student Enterprise Awards were undoubtedly impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit of the five students involved in TY Radio. Their drive and dedication as well as team spirit is clear. The TY Radio team is proud to support Childline and a percentage of profits will be going to this worthy cause. The group were third in the Senior Category and receive a plaque and a prize of €250. Congratulations to the team - Shauna Coyle, David Harpur, Tara Fitzpatrick, Jason Taylor and Katie Crosson. St. Aidan's transition year students entered eight groups in this year's Student Enterprise Awards. The regional finals of this competition were in the Slieve Russell Hotel on March 3. There were entries from nine Cavan schools and there was intense competition, especially within the Senior category, which had 33 entries. St. Aidan's enterprises covered such diverse areas as home-made buns and cakes, revision study aids, personalised hoodies and football target shooting. All the groups put in a huge effort and most of them have been profitable to date. Teachers Deirdre Marren and Hugh Campbell guided the groups in their efforts.
