Possessing cannabis A 21-year-old Meath man who was caught in possession of cannabis at Centra, Bailieboro Road, Mullagh, on February 12 was fined €250 when he appeared at Virginia District Court. Stephen Kearney, Kilmainhamwood, Kells, pleaded guilty to the offence. Inspector R. Mahon said that Garda Fahy had observed a car parked in Mullagh and decided to search it. During the search he found a quantity of cannabis with a street value of €20. Probation Bond A 21-year-old Meath man was placed on a Probation Bond when he pleaded guilty to a public order offence when he appeared at Virginia District Court. Darren Maguire, 19 Loughcrew View, Oldcastle, was charged with using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words with intent to provoke a breach of the peace at Lakeside Manor, Virginia, on August 9 and place on the bond for 12 months. Using mobile while driving A Bailieboro motorist who was seen using his mobile phone while driving along the town"s Main Street was fined €250 when he appeared at the local district court. Judge Sean MacBride told Kieran McHugh, 20 Woodview Estate, he was coming down hard on motorists who use mobile phones while driving. The offence occurred on February 8. No insurance The following were fined at Bailieboro District Court for having no insurance on their vehicles: Domatas Liziumas, No. 2 The Court, Glenveigh, Navan, €500 and disqualified for one year; Erika Matloviene, 43 Dartry Park, Cootehill, €500 and disqualified for one year; Robert Cox, Lisnabuntry, Virginia, €300; and Lorcan Duffy (19), Kells Road, Bailieboro was ordered to donate €500 to the Cavan Drug Awareness Centre. Excess alcohol The following were fined at Bailieboro District Court for driving with excess alcohol: Niall Martin (20), Greatwood, Ardee, 55/100 breath, €200 and disqualified for two years, three months; Patrick McGivney, 11a Nure Avenue, Wardneut, Kilmarnock, Scotland, 52/100 breath, €225 and disqualified for two years, three months; and Kevin O"Halloran (22), Kells Road, Bailieboro, 59/100 breath, €400 and disqualified for two years, three months plus €300 for no insurance and disqualified for three years. Careless driving A Northern Ireland driver who was clocked doing 133kmh in a 60kmh zone was convicted on a reduced charge of careless driving when he appeared at Virginia District Court. Michael Hurson, 239 Swanlinbar Road, Ervery, Enniskillen, pleaded guilty to the offence at Bailieboro Road, Rahardrum, Virginia, on June 20.
