Irish Wheelchair hopes to raise €500,000 in November
Michael Cryan The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) hopes to raise €500,000 through its annual Angel Campaign running for the duration of this month. Throughout the years IWA have played a key role in advocating for changes and improvements to the lives of people with physical disabilities. Here in Cavan, the IWA provide a five day service to people with a physical and sensory disability at their purpose built centre at Corlurgan Business Park, Ballinagh Road, Cavan. Bridget Boyle, Cavan Co-ordinator, said "The service is for people between the ages of 18 and 65, while we also provide youth services for those aged between 13 and 18." Ms. Boyle points out that people can avail of programme such as drama, flower arranging, personal development, adult literacy, arts and crafts, computers, health promotion and physical activity as well as chiropody. "They can also access HSE services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy." There are currently over 60 people availing of these services each week. The Cavan IWA also provide other services such as accessible transport, assisted living services, driving assessments and tuition, respite and holiday breaks.
