Cavan chef's inspirational mother has died
The mother of celebrity chef, Neven Maguire, has passed away. Vera Maguire (nee Donoghue) of Eden House, Blacklion, was always hailed by her son, Neven, as the inspiration behind his love of food and talent as a chef. Mrs Maguire died peacefully at the weekend, following illness, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. She is predeceased by her husband Joe, who died in 1999 following a car accident. Vera is sadly missed by her nine children - Kenny, Sharon, Sonya, Neven, David, Naomi, Suzanne, Allan and Karlous; brothers; sisters; grandchildren; extended family and all her friends. The Maguire family owned the MacNean House in Blacklion, which was taken over in 2001 by Neven and has since become a multi award-winning culinary landmark. Vera Maguire's removal will take place this evening, Monday, to arrive at St Patrick's Church, Killinagh, Blacklion for 7.30pm. Mass of the Resurrection, Tuesday at 12 noon, followed by burial in Killinagh cemetery. House private to family and friends from 5pm Monday. Family flowers only, donations in lieu if desired to Northwest Hospice, Sligo.
