Quinn Group rename plastics division

Commercial motives and not a move to eradicate the Quinn name from its products is the reason given following a move by the manufacturing group to rebrand its plastics division last week.

Following considerable market analysis which included extensive research with customers, Quinn Manufacturing Group has announced it is to rebrand its plastics business under a name, Polycasa.
Currently the largest non-integrated manufacturer in Europe of plastic sheeting, the Group feel the new name and accompanying logo is more relevant to the products it makes and the markets it sells to.
Quinn Plastics originally arose from a deal struck in 2004 to acquire the Barlo company, which consisted of a Radiators division located in Ireland (Clonmel and Wicklow) and a Plastics division which had six manufacturing plants across Europe. Barlo Plastics was renamed Quinn Plastics in January 2005.
All of Polycasa’s manufacturing plants, and more than 80% of its sales, are based on the continent. The plastic sheeting it sells is used to produce a range of consumer end products, such as roof lights, bath tubs, shelving, signage, vehicle interiors, airport sound barriers, shower screens and fridge liners.
Group CEO Paul O’Brien admitted in an interview with this newspaper earlier this year that the possibility of renaming Quinn branded companies was a possibility, but the focus of the company was on maintaining and developing its market shares.
“We did consult with customers, we did consult with suppliers and employees, our banks and our investors”, Mr O’Brien told The Celt. “There is a level of ambivalence to do with the name. It's mainly about the product because you are supplying business to business.
“I’m not saying we’ll never do it but there are many issues which this company faces. A change of name wasn’t and isn’t high on the list of priorities.”
