Latest crime figures for your area revealed
Sheep rustling, stolen Guinness kegs, burgled schools and the thefts batteries from a temporary traffic lights were amongst the crime figures for the first three months of this year. The figure were revealed at the Cavan County Joint Policing Committee on Monday (May 21) by regional Garda Chief Superintendent James Sheridan. Chief Supt Sheridan says the figures show a greater need for people to be aware of suspicious activity "at all times of the day". He added: "I know it's not much of a consolation to people who've suffered, having their houses robbed, but the number of burglaries in the county decreased significantly. "We are very much focusing on targeting these crimes, we're looking at the where, when and at what times these crimes are being committed and we are having a degree of success in our detection of the people carrying them out." CAVAN DISTRICT BURGLARIES 36 -8% on same period 2011 19% detection rate 26 of the burglaries committed were in private dwelling houses and 15 if these were committed between 8am-10pm. 3 burglaries occurred in schools: Mullahoran, Crubany and St Claire's NS, Cavan. 7 burglaries occurred at business premises, six of these occurred during night time. THEFTS Thefts from vehicles 11 (Cavan 9, Kilnaleck 1, Ballinagh 1 ) -8% on same period 2011 10% detection rate Items stolen were - tyresbatteries, cash, handbags, laptops, number plates. In some instances vehicles were left unloicked or property was left exposed in parked vehicles.
