Up to 3cm of snow forecast for tonight

A status yellow remains in place for much of the country with snow of up to 3cm forecast for tonight in Ulster, north Leinster and parts of Connacht, particularly on high ground. Temperatures tonight are predicted to fall to minus two as the cold snap continues.

Tonight

Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will spread from the west this evening and overnight. The snow will fall mainly on high ground but at lowers levels also with accumulations in places. Drier clearer conditions with scattered showers will develop in the west before morning. Another cold night with frost and ice in places. Lows of +1 to -2 Celsius in mostly light south to southeast breezes. Winds will be moderate to fresh along the west coast.

Tomorrow

Cloudy in most parts tomorrow, Tuesday, with further outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow. But brighter conditions with scattered showers in the west will extend eastwards during afternoon. Some of the showers will be heavy and wintry later in the day. A cold day with highs of just 3 to 6 Celsius in light to moderate south to southwest breezes.
