Two deaths and 66 new Covid cases
There have been two deaths and a total of 66 new confirmed cases of infection of Covid-19, according to the latest update provided by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been informed that a total of 2 people with COVID-19 have died..
The number of deaths has fallen over the weekend from nine in one day to now two.
There have now been a total 1,652 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland to date.
The 66 new cases of Covid infection represents an increase on yesterday, Saturday, when there was 59 confirmed cases.
The data provided by the HPSC is said as of midnight Saturday, 30 May.
There is now a total of 24,990 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.
The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.
On a county by county basis, there have now been 834 infected cases confirmed to date. That’s an increase of one new confirmed case in the county over the weekend.
In neighbouring Co Monaghan, which reported an increase of three new cases based on Saturday’s analysis, there has now been 509 confirmed cases to date, up two, and increase for a third day straight.
Elsewhere in the region there are now 797 cases in Meath, up two, 83 in Leitrim, no change, and 281 in Longford, also a rise of two new cases.
Today’s data from the HPSC, as of midnight, Friday 29 May (24,924 cases), reveals 57% of infected cases are female and 43% are male. The median age of confirmed cases is 48 years
Of that figure, 3,283 cases, up four on yesterday (13%) have been hospitalised, with 408 cases admitted to ICU.
A total of 7,963 cases, up eight, are associated with healthcare workers.
Dublin continues to have the highest number of cases at 12,042 (48% of all cases) followed by Cork with 1,477 cases (6%) and then Kildare with 1,416 cases (6%).
Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 39%, close contact accounts for 58%, travel abroad accounts for 2%.
