Dara Brady in Star Feck

Star Feck boldly go for RTE competition

Scene one: A grown man with fake ears sits in a cardboard box describing how it is "probably the best sci-fi ever". Cut to scene two, where our bearded hero - played by Lacken native Dara Brady - saunters down Main Street in Belturbet before making a purchase in a backery. Using a cardboard cut-out as currency, obviously. Welcome to the hilariously surreal pitch video for Star Feck, produced by Belturbet-based Maccana Teoranta. Described variously as "Father Ted in Space" and, by Brady's character, as "Battlestar Galactica meets Home and Away", Star Feck is part of RTE's prestigious Storyland competition. Having made it to the last half dozen from 137 entrants, Star Feck will battle it out with five other entries. There are six stages of voting on the Storyland website, with one entry eliminated after each stage. The 43-second long pitch video finishes with the 'Mammy' (Theresa McGlynn) declaring face-on, deapan to the camera that he (Dara) "loves his Star Feck". The video has already attracted 2,500 views on youtube and, jusdging by the feedback on that site, is attracting solid support. Having held auditions last week, the first two episodes will begin filming tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday in Belturbet.
