Imelda May-hem for Pumpkin Festival
Thousands are set to rock to the amazing sounds of Imelda May at the Dome during the Virginia Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, October 23, writes Sean McMahon. The Dublin woman has a distinctive voice and her sense of style comes from her love of clothes from the fifties. The chairman of the Pumpkin Festival committee Jimmy Murray told The Anglo-Celt this week that they are delighted to have signed up the amazing Imelda as the headline act for this year. The dome will accommodate 2,000 people and her energetic brand of music will bring a wonderful energy to the gig on the night. The Pumpkin organisers are always ahead of the pack when it comes to new entertainment concepts and the Pumpkin Bites Back spectacular, courtesy of the man behind the Croke Park GAA 125 year celebrations and a spectacular at the opening of the 2012 Olympic games in London, Francis Morgan, is an outdoor family spectacle on Friday, October 22 and Sunday 24. It is described as a scientific fable that might well be far from fiction. It contains loud live music, giant puppets and unexpected elements, and is essentially the ultimate outdoor theatrical spectacle a theme of genetically modified pumpkins and toxic growers. Some of the puppets will be up 30m in the air and Virginia Main Street will become the largest theatre in Ireland on the two nights. The weekend will include lots more action, from the Soap Box Derby, lots of family entertainment, markets and more. The Fancy Dress on Sunday night in the marquee claims to be the biggest single fancy dress in the country.
