Met Eireann issue weather warning

Met Eireann are urging everyone to batten down the hatches and avoid unnecessary journeys after issuing a Status Yellow- National Weather Warning of gale force winds and blustery conditions right across the country.

Severe wind warnings are in place across much of the North-West and West, with Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, Cavan and Monaghan, while much of the country awakened to find heavy snow falls over night.

Met Eireann say the weather for the coming week will staying very unsettled and changeable with wet and windy periods.

The storms, caused by an Atlantic depression, have had devastating affect in some areas, where a 23-year-old woman was killed in Ireland when a tree fell onto her car near Mullingar, Westmeath, while in Cork, strong winds ripped off part of the roof of a railway station in Cork, injuring one passenger.
Gardaí are also urging motorists to take extreme care on roads, both after the heavy snow falls and with danger of more tree falling in areas affected by high winds.
