Royal School to host major school reunion

The Royal School Cavan Past Pupils Association (RSCPPA) will host their first large-scale reunion function and dinner on Friday night, March 12, in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan, starting at 7.30pm. This inaugural event will be run by the recently re-established RSCPPA committee and admission is by ticket only. According to Errol Stafford of the organising committee, a lot of excitement was generated over the 400-year anniversary of the Five Ulster Royal Schools in 2008. "The launch of The Royal Schools Book, sparked renewed interest in the re-establishment of a Past Pupils Association for Cavan Royal School." A general meeting was held in the Royal School, Cavan, in November 2008 and speakers included Paul Hewitt (Dungannon Royal School), Rev. Roy Byrne (Association of Past Pupils), George Smith (current President of Dungannon Old Boys Association) and Ivan Bolton (then Headmaster, Cavan Royal School). A representative sample of past pupils were in attendance also. A committee was subsequently formed, comprising Noel Huston (president), Gladys Anderson (treasurer), Isla Poyntz (secretary) and Robert Morrow, Errol Stafford and Iris Gordon. "The past year has seen the committee working to build-up the membership of the RSCPPA, and primarily organising the reunion function now confirmed for March 12. It is hoped that all former Royal School pupils that can attend will take the opportunity to do so, and enjoy a night of reminiscence, nostalgia and the chance to meet old friends not seen since school days," said Mr. Stafford. Tickets for the reunion are priced at €25 and further details are available from the committee members on 087-9786017, 086-9294302 and 049-4336524, or by phoning the RSCPPA secretary at The Royal School on 049-4361605. Applications for membership will be accepted on the night. All past pupils, of all ages, are welcome and encouraged to join. The aim of the RSCPPA is to reach out at home and abroad to as many past pupils as possible, to give them the opportunity to meet each other again, and also to strengthen links between past pupils and the current school community.Membership application forms are available from the RSCPPA website on ppa.royalschoolcavan.ie.
