Sister makes heartfelt plea for missing brother

As fears grows for the safety and whereabouts of missing 42-year-old Bailieboro man, Gerard Daly, his sister Belinda Daly has made a heart-felt plea for information about his disappearance on June 26. Ms Daly told The Anglo-Celt that the family had not heard anything of his whereabouts since he mysteriously vanished. He was last seen at his home at Cornaveagh in Bailieboro at approximately 6pm on that Sunday evening. She pointed out, the longer it goes on without any news of his whereabouts, the more heartbreaking it becomes. "I just feel somebody out there knows something - if we can reach them through this appeal - that may be the missing link we require to locate him." Belinda Daly added that there were no signs of any form of disturbance at his home. A couple of lights were on in the house, as was the television. He usually entered the house via the conservatory and that was all closed up and his keys and phone were missing. His wallet was still in the house and none of his clothes or personal belongings are missing and his car was still there, as was his passport. The Gardaí are also appealing to the public for assistance in tracing his whereabouts. He is described as five foot, ten inches in height, of solid build, with medium brown hair and blue eyes. Belinda Daly explained that she wished to highlight her brother's disappearance again in an effort to jog people's memories. "Maybe someone has information that they originally thought was irrelevant, and on reflection may prove useful in locating him," she said. Belinda added that the Gardaí had eliminated suicide in their investigation or the possibility that he had skipped the country. When asked if there any suggestion that he might have been taken away against his will, Belinda said they were not aware of anything like that. "The Gardaí have not indicated anything like that to us at all." A number of lakes have been searched and the Garda helicopter has also been used in the search. "The people of the area have also come out in their droves to help us search the countryside for Gerard, and we the Daly family will be eternally grateful for that," said Belinda. Gerard had been residing in Bailieboro for four years and his three children reside in Dublin, and he is originally from Tallaght. He had been working on the buildings but became unemployed. Belinda revealed that Gerard was big into breeding German Shepherd dogs and selling the pups. He also trained dogs as well at Cornaveagh. Belinda Daly said the Gardaí have been brilliant as have the local community. Nothing out of the ordinary had taken place before he went missing. The family had seen him some weeks previously and he was happy and normal. "It is very distressing for my mum and dad, Gerard and Bridget. They are very concerned about him, as we all are at this point. Not knowing anything is very distressing. Hopefully this appeal will help somebody to remember something, that may lead to whereabouts," she said. Belinda also pointed out that they have established a Facebook page and it is called 'Appeal for missing Gerry Daly'. Anyone that has any information can also post it onto the facebook page". Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gardai at Bailieboro 0429694570 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800666111.
