Fantastic night at Anglo-Celt GAA Awards

What a night! The great and good of Cavan GAA circles descended on the Hotel Kilmore last Friday for the 11th annual Anglo-Celt Cavan GAA Media Awards, which turned out to be a huge success. Pride of place in the individual stakes went to Belturbet goal king Jason O'Reilly. 'Jayo' was a hugely-popular winner of the award after a fantastic season in the maroon jersey of the Rories. Meanwhile, Lavey were crowned Club of the Year after a superb season. The New Inns side won their place in senior ranks with victory in the Cavan Intermediate Championship. They then went all the way to the Ulster final, losing narrowly to eventual All Ireland champions Cookstown. At underage level, Lavey had an excellent season, winning an Under 14 championship title and their second successive Minor Division Two crown. The club also competed well at Under 21 level and, not content with victory in Men's football, they also took the ladies Division Three league title. Young handballer Senan Gilchreest also reached an All Ireland final in what was a momentous year for the club. Also in the hunt for the Club crown were Butlersbridge, who won the Junior A championship and Division Three and Division Six leagues. The Bridge didn't leave empty-handed, however, as Keith Gumley took the Junior Player of the Year category. Lavey's Stephen Jordan was Intermediate Player of the Year while the Minor and Ladies football awards went to Ballyhaise's Kevin Tierney and Templeport's Aisling Doonan respectively. It was a good night for Mullahoran with James Brady, Paul Brady, Dominic Crudden and MG Brady all scooping awards. Lacken's Niamh Brady was voted as camogie Player of the Year.
