Niall Mellon township Challenge
On 24th May next a charity auction will take place in Fitzsimons' Bar, Finea, in aid of the Niall Mellon Township challenge.
Local man, Dermot Hennessy, is on his second trip to South Africa to build houses in some of the poorest and poverty stricken parts of the world. Dermot is holding a charity auction that night and all funds will go to the cause. Weekends away, dinner vouchers, are just some of the items for auction.
Tickets for the night are §5. Raffle and refreshments provided. Anyone wishing to contribute to the auction in any form please contact Dermot on 086-1927187.
Recent wedding
Congratulations to Miss Breda Reilly, Finea and Mr. Colm Smith, Lismacaffrey, who were married in St. Mary's Church, Finea, on Thursday, May 1st last.
Following the ceremony families and friends adjourned to the Crover House Hotel, Mountnugent, where a delightful reception was held.
We wish Breda and Colm many happy years of wedded bliss.
Marriage of Pat and Caroline
Congratulations to Mr. Patrick Kiernan, Finea and Miss Caroline Rooney, Crover, who were wed in St. Marys Church, Carrick, on Saturday last, May 10th.
Following the nuptials, the wedding party and guests travelled to Crover House hotel, for a delicious wedding banquet. We wish Pat and Caroline every happiness for the future.
Mr. Thomas Gilligan
The death occurred peacefully at Maple court Nursing Home, Castlepollard, on may 9th last of Mr. Thomas Gilligan, Ballywillan, Granard. A member of an old and well respected farming family, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Miriam, some years ago.
His remains were removed to St. Bernard's Church, Abbeylara, on Sunday evening. Burial took place in adjoining cemetery the next morning following Requiem Mass celebrated at 11 a.m.
He is survived by his loving sons Andy, Thomas, Larry, Bernard and Gerry, daughters Mary, Esther, Catherine and Gabrielle, brother Bernard, grandchildren and large family circle, to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
