Wins for Kingscourt and Castlerahan

Championship round-up

Kingscourt Stars made it three wins from three last evening in the Hotel Kilmore SFC when they blew Laragh United away in a very impressive performance at Mullagh.

The Stars raced into a 0-7 to 0-0 lead with points from Barry Reilly, Joe Dillon, Paddy Meade, Cian Shekleton and an attacking mark from the outstanding Padraig Faulkner.

And while Laragh cut the gap to five (0-9 to 0-4) with scores from Paul Smith, Liam McKenna and Jack McKenna, two goals for Kingscourt, the second a soccer-style finish from Peter Corrigan, and a free from Faulkner made it 2-10 to 0-4.

The blues kept up the pressure and Faulkner added another goal and Dillon a couple of points as they won pulling up by 3-15 to 1-7.

Elsewhere, Castlerahan, playing their third championship match in 10 days, picked up another win but were made to work for it against Mullahoran.

The Dreadnoughts were right in the game at 0-10 to 0-8 entering the final quarter but sub Oisin O’Connell proved the key man for Castlerahan, sending over 0-4 (including two attacking marks) to help the champions ease home by 0-15 to 0-11.

Meanwhile, there were upsets in the other grades. In the IFC, two goals from Sean Brady helped Ramor United defeat Drumgoon by 2-8 to 2-6 in Kingscourt.

In the Cully’s Craft Bakery Junior Championship, Kill Shamrocks produced a sizeable shock when they defeated a fancied Mountnugent by 1-14 to 0-16.

The tie of the day today looks to be Ramor United v Cavan Gaels, which throws in at 5pm in St Matthew's Park, Crosskeys.
