‘Taken too soon’

Laoise Grace Nolan, late of Enniskillen, will be laid to rest later this morning.

The funeral of the young woman who died following a crash near Belturbet at the weekend takes place today, Wednesday, June 30.

It is the second fatal road traffic collision in Cavan in as many weeks, after former school principal Molly Rudden died in an accident near Stradone (June 18).

Ms Rudden’s tragic death, and that which occurred in the early hours of last Saturday morning (June 26) brings to four the number of deaths on local roads this year.

Laoise Grace Nolan, late of 21 Kilmacormick Drive, Enniskillen, will be laid to rest following Requiem Mass at St Michael’s Church in her hometown this morning.

At the same time, a male passenger in the car which veered from the road on the N3 at Drumalure, remains in critical conditions after suffering potentially life-changing injuries.

He was taken to Cavan General Hospital, but later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda for further emergency medical intervention.

The driver, a man, and two other female passengers, were also taken to hospital though treated for what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

All of five persons in the car when the collision occurred, at approximately 12.50am on Saturday morning, were aged in their 20s.

Online, messages of condolences have been posted for the Nolan family, and messages of support to the family of the young man still receiving critical care in hospital.

One person wrote on social media: 'Laoise you were such a wee doll. Beautiful inside and out. Taken too soon from this earth'.

Another commented: 'Rest easy Laoise. You will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved you in this world'.

Ms Nolan is survived by her parents, four siblings, extended family and many friends.

Requiem Mass (which can be viewed via Webcam) takes place at St Michael's Church, Enniskillen at 11am.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Mass is private to family and invited friends, and people are being asked not to congregate near St Michael's Church or at the cemetery.
