Leona’s quest is underway

Leona Maguire’s dream of Olympic gold is underway after the Ballyconnell star teed it up at 11.52pm last night (Tuesday) for her first round in the Women’s Individual Strokeplay at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Tokyo.

The Cavan superstar, who is in brilliant form of late, is one of the favourites to contend for a podium finish, having carded a magnificent 61 in her last competitive round last Sunday week in France.

“My game is in nice shape,” said Maguire.

“It was nice to finish off Evian with a good round and good momentum. It was my best finish at a Major, so yeah, everything’s sort of trending in the right direction.”

Leona is currently ranked 50th in the LPGA rankings, her highest ranking to date.

The whole county is behind her as she begins her quest for Olympic Gold.
