Garda investigate Ballyconnell vandalism

The destruction of a beautiful piece of public art in Ballyconnell is being investigated by the local Gardaí.

In a post on their Facebook Page Cavan Monaghan Garda Division showed an image of the vandalism that saw a granite seat in the town's public park.

The social media post said: "This is what's left of the granite seat that was in the playground in the Town Park in Ballyconnell. It was damaged last Friday evening, 20th August.”

Members of the public condemned the wanton destruction with Ana Trifan saying: “I wonder if anyone else controls what's going on in this park. Go to the playground, you're horrified when you see men around, drinking, and leaving trash behind. Worrying that everything happens where children go to play, years ago I did not see such a thing, and worse than no one noticed.”

Another commenter, Kevin Dempsey, said: “This is appalling,” while Colin Reilly suggested: “Cameras needed as soon as possible to monitor all the anti social behaviour in that area in particular.”

The Cavan Monaghan Garda Division have asked any member of the public who can help identify the culprits to give the Gardai in Ballyconnell a call on 049 9525580.
