It is with regret that we note the following deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

Denis Courtney

The death has occurred of Denis Courtney, Kilsarn, Loughduff, Cavan. Denis died peacefully at the General Hospital, Cavan surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 25, 2022. Predeceased by his brothers Joe, Seamus, George and his sister Bridie. Sadly missed by his loving wife Theresa, sons Seamus, John, Denis and Martin, daughters Anne (Murray) Helen (Walsh) brother Charlie sisters Kathleen, Lily, and Vera, daughters in law, sons in law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. May he rest in peace.

Reposing at Reilly's Funeral Home, Kilcogy,(N39W1D6) on Saturday from 4pm with prayers at 6pm. Removal from his home on Sunday morning arriving St. Joseph's Church, Loughduff, for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Interment afterwards in adjoining cemetery. House private please. Family flowers only. Pease respect current H. S. E. guidelines - wearing of face covering and no hand shaking.

Dermot Dunne

The death has occurred of Dermot Dunne, The Commons, Mountmellick/ Cavan and formerly Cappagh North, Portlaoise. Eldest son of the late Thomas and Sarah and brother of the late Florence Ruddy. Deeply regretted by his loving brother Ken, his sister-in-law Breda. He was the beloved uncle of Sarah, Michael, Jacinta, Orla, Padraig, Niamh and Sarah.

Reposing in Moloneys Funeral Home, Mountmellick this Friday evening from 6pm Recital of the Rosary at 7.30pm. Removal from his home on Saturday morning at 10.30am to St Joseph's Church, Mountmelick for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial after in St Joseph's Cemetery. House private please.

Bartley McGovern

The death has occurred of Bartley McGovern Cam, Edgeworthstown, Longford / Butlersbridge, Cavan. Formerly of Derryheen, Butlersbridge, Cavan. Bartley passed away peacefully in his 98th year, surrounded by his family and in the loving care of the staff at Our Lady's Unit 1, St. Joseph's Care Centre, Longford. Predeceased by his parents and his brothers Michael, Tommy and John, son-in-law Paddy Kenny and brother-in-law Patrick Kiernan.

Deeply regretted by his loving wife Kitty and his daughters Maura Kenny (Bracklin), Ann Quinn (Corner House), Cathy McLynn (Ballymahon) and his son Bart (Kinnegad), his sister Dympna and her husband Paddy Cahill (Shankill, Cavan), daughter-in-law Aideen, sons-in-law John McLynn and Philip Quinn, sister-in-law Evelyn (Ballyjamesduff), his twelve adoring grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Rest in peace.

Bartley will repose in Glennon's Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road, Longford N39 EC81 on Saturday, February 26, from 3pm until 5pm (walk through only) with Prayers at 4.30pm followed by removal to St. Mary's Church, Edgeworthstown, arriving at 6pm. Funeral Mass on Sunday at 2pm. Burial afterwards in Aughafin Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to Our Lady's Unit 1 at St. Joseph's Care Centre, Longford, care of Gogan's Funeral Directors or any family member.

Turloch Smith

The death has occurred of Turloch Smith, Deerpark, Belville, Ballinagh, Cavan. Turloch passed away peacefully at his home. Beloved husband of Bernie, devoted father of Niall, Terry, Conor, grandfather of Charlie, Predeceased by his parents Con, and Bridget, infant brother Ciaran. Sadly missed by brother Seamus, sisters, Anne, Mary, Patricia, and Carmel. daughters in law, Charlotte, Mikita, Camila, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan on Saturday evening from 5pm until 7pm. Removal to arrive St. Felim's Church, Ballinagh for Funeral Mass at 2pm on Sunday, Februaty 27. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu to the Irish Heart Foundation. Due to HSE regulations the Smith Family Home is for family and close friends please. Jean Johnston (née Thompson)

The death has occurred of Jean Johnston (née Thompson), Creighans, Glaslough, Monaghan. Peacefully, on Friday, February 2, 2022, at home in the loving care of her devoted family. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband Campbell.

Philomena Doherty

The death has occurred of Philomena Doherty Faulklands, Glaslough, Monaghan. Suddenly at home. Predeceased by her mother Mary. Sadly missed by her loving daughter Mary, neighbours and friends. Reposing at the residence of her daughter Mary (Faulklands). House strictly private please. Removal on Monday (28/02/2022), arriving at St. Mary’s Church, Glennan for funeral Mass at 11 a.m., subject to Covid 19 guidelines.

Jim Lavery

The death has occurred of Jim Lavery 56 Woodview, Killygoan, Monaghan Town, Monaghan on Friday, February 25, peacefully, at St. Francis' Hospice, Raheny, Dublin. Jim, deeply regretted and remembered with love by his family, wife Jane, sons Colm and Paul, daughter Genevieve, daughters in law Miriam and Karen, sister Ann Hannon, sister in-law Cathy, brother in-law Frank, grandchildren Jack, Aaron, Fiadh, Robin, Michaela, Kavina and Mark, nephews Leslie and Alan, extended family, neighbours and many friends. May Jim’s gentle soul rest In eternal peace.

Jim will repose at his home tomorrow, Saturday, from 4pm until 8pm and again on Sunday from 4pm until 8pm. Removal on Monday morning from the residence at 10:30am, proceeding on foot, to arrive at St. Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan, for funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in Latlurcan Cemetery.
