Memorial for beloved Killinkere man

His death was greeted with widespread shock.

A memorial for Lewis Fay-Cooper takes place later today.

The 23 year old died suddenly in April 2020, leading to widespread tributes.

His family have organised the memorial ceremony as restrictions were in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic at the time of his death.

“The sadness of the present days is locked and set in time and moving to the future is a slow and painful climb”, the family said announcing the event.

There was shock at the time of the popular Killinkere footballer’s death in what was described as a “tragic accident”.

His local GAA club in Killinkere said it was “mourning the huge loss”.

Lewis Fay-Cooper lined out at corner-back for Cavan minors in the 2015 Ulster final and went on to captain his club to their long-awaited Junior Championship title in October 2019.

He was survived by his parents Richard and Patricia and brother Conor.

The memorial, which the Fay-Cooper family have described as a celebration of his life, will take place at 3pm today in Killinkere Leisure Centre.

"Restrictions have now been lifted sufficiently for us to be able to invite you to celebrate Lewis's life with us", they said.
