Man charged in relation to B’boro attack

Man hospitalised following assault.

A man has appeared before the courts in connection with a serious assault at a house in the Bailieborough area earlier this week.

The male, aged in his 20’s, appeared before a sitting of Monaghan District Court yesterday morning, Wednesday, July 27.

The second man, also aged in his 20’s, who was arrested alongside the first male following the attack in the early hours of last Tuesday morning, July 26, has been released without charge. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.

The arrests occurred a short distance away from a property in Bailieborough where a male, aged in his early 20’s, was seriously injured.

He was subsequently hospitalised, where his condition continues to be monitored.

The two men arrested were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed that a male had gone before the court.

“One man has been charged in relation to the incident and appeared before Monaghan District Court the morning of Wednesday 27th July, 2022 at 10.30a.m. The second man has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

They added that: “Investigations are ongoing.”
