Calling storytellers for a special night in the pub
One of Ireland's biggest brands and exports, Guinness, has team up with Seanchoíche, a magical storytelling experience, to bring a unique Irish event on tour around the country.
It will involved storytelling nights in the local pub featuring ordinary people telling extraordinary stories shared over a creamy pint of the black stuff! And best of all, local storytellers are being urged to get involved.
The four-part event series will travel to Downings, Co Donegal, next month when 'The Harbour Bar' will host the experience on Thursday, August 3.
Michael Casey, bar manager, is excited about the gig and promising "something special".
“Storytelling is in our DNA. We’re world-renowned story tellers on this Island, and don’t we love a captive audience?!" he enthused.
In addition to the event in The Harbour Bar, Seanchoíche and Guinness will host three other intimate events including The Guinness Storehouse, Dublin on Thursday, July 27; Dick Mack’s, Dingle, Co Kerry on Thursday, August 10, and Matt Molloy’s, Westport, Co Mayo, on Thursday, August 24.
Seanchoíche founder Ciaran Gaffney said: "Our aim has always been to give everyone who attends an authentic taste of Ireland, its stories and now its vibrant pub scene.
"This collaboration will really help us to continue the revival of the age-old tradition of storytelling in a contemporary way. The series of events will showcase the beauty, power and truth in storytelling, which already has a huge heritage in the pub and contributes so massively to Ireland's rich cultural tapestry."
Amber Brown, senior culture and entertainment manager at Diageo Ireland, is also "thrilled" and "inspired" by the initiative.
“Bringing ordinary people together to tell their extraordinary stories over a pint in some of the most beautiful pubs of Ireland – it is going to be a truly special series!” she said.
Local storytellers and members of the public will have a chance to sign up and not only attend one of these events, but also apply to tell their own story. To find out more visit seanchoiche.com
