Parting Glass sounds good for Cavan Rose, Brioni Gallagher

Her rendition of The Parting Glass, a song made famous by the High Kings, was instrumental in earning the Cavan Rose 2011 title for Brioni Gallagher from Kingscourt. Brioni has a degree in English and Music from University College Cork and has completed a graduate diploma in Music Education in the University of Limerick. She is currently working as a substitute teacher but also manages to fit in time to be a professional singer and has worked with Riverdance and Irish traditional show Ragus. She showed her singing talents in the Cavan heats and wowed judges and audience alike with her rendition of The Parting Glass. Brioni is a big traditional music fan an hopes to perform another traditional Irish song on the regional finals night. While she wore a breffni blue dress in the Cavan heat, she is unsure about what frock she will wear when she competes in the next round, in the Heritage Hotel, Laois on the June bank holiday weekend. "I have a few possibilities, nothing certain yet," she said. Success in Laois would guarantee her place in the Rose of Tralee final on August 19-23. Brioni is looking forward to representing Cavan: "It has been a great experience to become the Cavan Rose and to represent my county," she said. "I'm looking forward to all that entails and hope to do Cavan proud. It would be great to make it down to Kerry though, fingers crossed!" Brioni is grateful to her sponsors McMahon Fabrication Systems for its kind support through the competition so far.
