Gardai seize €66K in Ballinagh growhouse raid

Gardai in Cavan yesterday busted a growhouse in the Ballinagh area, seizing an estimated €66K worth of cannabis.
A Garda spokesperson said: “As part of an ongoing operation by Gardai from Cavan into the sale and supply of controlled substances in the Cavan area a premises was searched at Kilnacreevy, Ballinagh, Co Cavan, yesterday afternoon, Thursday, April 7.”
During the course of the search gardai discovered 83 cannabis plants “with an approximate street value of €66,400”.
A 51-year-old male was arrested and detained at Cavan Garda Station “under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984,” said gardai. He was later released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
“These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks. Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities. Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality,” the spokesperson said.
