The window at the Hard Boiled restaurant, through which thieves gained entry to the premises last night

Gang smash Hard Boiled window for can of Coke

There's more than one way to crack an egg, or so a gang or brazen thieves put to the test last night.

Gardai are hunting for raiders who cracked and smashed their way through a reinforced glass window at the famed Hard Boiled Restaurant in Cavan Town, all for a can of cola it's alleged.

The break-in occurred at around 3am on Friday morning when the gang used large traffic cones to shatter the window. It took up to a dozen blows to shatter the pane, before stones were then also used to finally force their way through.

Once inside the gang rummaged through the home of Ireland's biggest breakfast before the alarm went off and they fled empty handed, with the exception of a can of Coke.

Proprietor John Gaughan told The Anglo-Celt that while there has been minor damage to windows at the premises in the past, this was the most significant breakage.

“It is sad to see this happening around the town,” lamented Mr Gaughan. “The gardaí were here on the spot straight away – when I arrived into work this morning, they were waiting for me and protecting the premises. I have to say a very big thank to the gardaí for their good work.”

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana informed the Celt this afternoon that they continuing to investigate the burglary at the Townsparks' restaurant, but that as yet “No arrests have been made” and investigation are ongoing.
