A Lotto player in Co Monaghan is more than a quarter of a million Euro better off this week after matching five numbers and the bonus ball on last Saturday night’s Lotto draw (September 8).
The lucky winner scooped €262,429 and bought their ticket at Fleming’s Supervalu store on Church Square in Monaghan Town. The player fell just one number short of the €2,836,472 Lotto jackpot, which rolls to an estimated €3.5 million on Wednesday.
Manager of Fleming's Supervalu, Robbie Herron said: “We’re expecting a busy morning as we have been spreading the great news to all of our customers who have been in the store early this morning. As we are beside the church we get heavy footfall on Sunday mornings so I think the win will be the talk of the town! As for the identity of the winner, sure it could be anyone. We have so many locals who are regular Lotto players but we also get a lot of passing trade, being in the middle of the town. Fingers crossed it is a local but congratulations and best of luck to whoever it is!”
This is the second time in 12 months that a player from Monaghan has come agonisingly close to winning the Lotto jackpot after Declan Ward, from Castleblaney, Co Monaghan won €170,867 after matching five numbers and the bonus back in September 2017.
The National Lottery is now encouraging all its players in Monaghan to check their tickets carefully. A spokesperson said: “If you discover that you are in possession of this valuable piece of paper, be sure to sign the back of the ticket and contact our prize claims team on 01 836 4444 and we will make arrangements for you to come to the National Lottery Winner’s Room to get your prize."
