Small screen success for Lavey chef Shane

One of Cavan’s renowned chefs will be making regular appearances on RTE’s Today Show with Maura & Daithi over the coming weeks.
For professional chefs establishing a profile has become as important as the final product that is delivered to customers in their restaurants. Chef Shane Smith (right) is renowned for the clean, aesthetic lines of his presentation and the dedication and focus he brings to his work in the kitchen.
Earlier this year Shane launched a website to bring together his online presence and give a little more to his social media followers. By day Shane is the head of pastry and product development at the prestigious Airfield Estate, Dundrum, Dublin.
He has now expanded that profile by landing a cookery slot on the RTE Today Show with Maura & Daithi.

He is no stranger to TV having already done work for TV3. His presentations at The Taste of Cavan and Bloom in the Park also helped him hone the presentation style necessary to bring his work in the kitchen to a wider audience.
Speaking about the appointment Shane said: “I have been working with TV3 for years, and will continue to work with them, but this is a tremendous opportunity. To be picked to go on the RTE live show is amazing, I am making it sound like X Factor,” he joked.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase not only myself, but also what I do. It is a really exciting time and I am delighted to be able to do it. I have got huge exposure with TV3 so it is nice to be able to tap into a different audience. The TV3 show is a morning show, this is a 3:30pm slot. I am really looking forward to it,” Shane said.
The selection process has been taking place over the last few weeks: “I had to go to Cork in September to do a screen test and they were happy to bring me to the live show. My first slot with them is Wednesday the 14th of November.”
For now things are busy at Airfield Estate, Dundrum: “It is really busy here at the moment.
We are coming into Christmas. I am also writing a couple of features for the Sunday Times and the Sunday Business Post, so there is a lot happening at the moment.”
Shane is a regular contributor to The Anglo-Celt and we will be watching out for him in his new slot.
